Four Entries Win 2016 Clio Key Art Awards


Known as “the original and definitive distinction in creative communications for the entertainment business,” a Clio is one of the awards we aim for every time we tackle a new assignment. This year, we brought home four Clio Key Art Awards, and we couldn’t be more humbled and gratified for the recognition of our clients’ amazing offerings and our efforts to motivate the world to discover more about their merits.


Silver: Sonic’s Happy Hedgehog Day

Hedgehog Day has been a big deal for Sonic ever since the release of Sonic 3, when SEGA rechristened Groundhog Day in honor of its iconic character. In 2016, the year of Sonic’s 25th anniversary, we knew we needed to do something major to celebrate. So we put a real hedgehog in a papercraft version of Sonic’s most famous level: Green Hill Zone. The hedgehog ended up destroying the set, which actually made for a pretty great video.

When we posted the video on Sonic’s Facebook, it soon became the best-performing piece of content in the channel’s history with 1.4 million views and 22 thousand shares––more than doubling the channel’s infamous 2015 Shia Labeouf spoof––all with a paid media spend of zero.

Xbox is all about removing barriers and achieving aspirations for a whole new world of gaming. When Xbox asked us to create an E3 teaser for Project Scorpio, we asked the minds behind Xbox’s newest, fastest, most powerful and innovative 4K console to talk about the biggest unveil ever in Xbox history. Working with Academy Award-winning documentarian Morgan Neville, we created a piece that comes from the heart of the creators and lays the groundwork for a monumental achievement.


Bronze: Characters That Matter E3 2016 Teaser Trailer

Microsoft’s rousing Jump Ahead trailer opened the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) with the greatest line up in Xbox History. For this year’s follow up, we upped the ante by using one continuous camera to take viewers into and through the compelling environments and stories of their upcoming slate being released this year: ReCore, Dead Rising 4, Battlefield 1, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and Halo Wars 2.

With a stellar line-up of new games slated for 2016 and beyond, Xbox asked us to evolve the Characters That Matter campaign to highlight in-game characters who were every bit as compelling, but often less iconic, than last year’s roster of luminaries.

To bring added attention to these new and lesser-known personas, we made the composition less about who the characters are and more about what they do, with action poses that reflect both their missions and personalities. Our messaging retains the powerful notion of discovering something aspirational and unexpected while immersed in the fascinating worlds of the characters.
